Learn fundamental skills in our Junior Program
Our Active Kids Junior program is focused around Fundamental Skills relevant for children 5-8 years old. Our specially designed program focuses on themed days which will cover; throwing and catching, moving, bouncing, kicking and striking. Your child will have the opportunity for skill based sessions to learn about each of these skills, and opportunities to apply them in sport throughout the day.
Program overview
Each day we start the program with a fun skill based session to learn about the fundamentals of the movement, and then throughout the day focus on that movement and apply the skills to a sport session relevant to the skill. After a fun day of learning, we finish the day with a swimming session!
We incorporate different sports each day and each sport is instructed by specialised Active Kids staff! Each session is tailored for the group of children, and created for all skill levels to take something away from each session. For certain activities, we engage with the Griffith Mt Gravatt Tennis Centre and the Nathan Fitness Centre to provide specialised sessions!
At the commencement of each day we provide parents with a daily email summary to let you know what we did each day and provide information about each sport we participated in! We welcome feedback on our program and the activities offered by emailing the Program Coordinator at activekids@griffith.edu.au.

Junior Sport Descriptions
AFL
During this session your child will learn to bounce an AFL ball and the skill of a handball. The session will be focused on bouncing and using these skills in a fun skill based game environment.
Athletics
During this session your child will learn the skills of underarm and over arm throws and throwing for distance and throwing for accuracy. The session will be focused on catching and throwing and using these skills in a fun game environment.
Basketball
In this session your child will learn the skills of bouncing and ball control in a fun game environment, There will be different challenges set up based around bouncing to allow your child to try something different and explore different types of bouncing.
Boxing
Your child will experience a kids boxing session run by Gareth Williams from The Boxing Shop. They will learn the skill of feet movement, reflex techniques, and specialised boxing movements. This is one of our most popular sessions for younger children.
Futsal
Your child will learn the skills of kicking and running with a futsal ball. The session will be focused on learning specific futsal kicking skills and applying these skills into fun mini skill based games.
Hockey
Your child will have the chance to focus on learning the grip of a hockey stick, and learning hand eye coordination using the hockey stick and ball. The session will involve focusing aiming shots to land in goal. The session will finish with a mini game of Hockey.
Kids Commando Fitness
Your child will have the chance to experience a mini boot camp session. This class is focused on a fun fitness based circuit to get your child having fun and moving.
Netball
Your child will learn the skills of a bounce, lop, and chest pass. The session will be focused on catching and throwing and using these skills in a fun game environment.
Soccer
Your child will learn the skills of dribbling and kicking for distance and accuracy. The session will be focused on kicking and using these skills in mini games of soccer.
Swimming
Your child will learn fundamental swimming and lifesaving skills taught by an experienced and qualified Learn to swim instructor. Following the skill session, there will be a chance for free play.
Tee Ball
Your child will focus on striking a ball off a Tee working on their hand-eye coordination. In this skill based session your child will learn how to grip the bat and strike the ball, to finish the session they will compete in a mini relay hitting off a tee and running bases.
Tennis
Your child will work with Griffith University Tennis Centre to focus on the fundamental skill of striking. Kids will have the opportunity to learn how to grip the racquet, focus on the footwork and swinging technique involved in a forehand shot.
Touch Football
Your child will learn how to pass a touch ball, running with the ball and learning an effective ' touch'. The session will finish with a mini game of Touch Football.

How to register
If your child is aged 5 - 8 years old, we would love for them to join us in the Junior Program. Please note, you must fill in a registration form per child, and registration is not confirmed until payment has been made.
To secure your child's spot, please select either our Junior or Senior Active Kids program above. You are required to fill in a registration form for each child.
