A workshop for early career researchers in the GSBRC series 'Working as a Social Science Researcher" was held on the 16th October at the Mt Gravatt campus with a video link to the Gold Coast campus. The workshop 'How to Examine a Thesis' was for researchers who wished to develop their expertise in examining Theses.
The topics addressed included:-
- what makes a good examiner
- an overview on higher degree examining, practical advice on transparency, benchmarks and variables
- how to examine Theses in creative areas
- examples of examination report
The workshop leaders, Professor Joy Cumming, GSBRC, Dr George Petelin, QCA and Ms Minerva Capati, GSA had a great deal of expertise in these topics and provided many practical hints and tips which would assist both the new and more experienced examiner. Attendees shared, with the group, some of their own experiences and some of the difficulties they had encountered when examining Theses.
