Professor Margaret Sheil, Provost of the University of Melbourne was the guest speaker on Friday 15 March at the GSBRC Convocation held at the Ship Inn, Southbank. During her presentation entitled 'The impact of technology and global challenges on academic careers', Professor Sheil spoke about her career progression and also provided some insight into her days as CEO of the Australian Research Council and concluded with the contemporary subject of MOOCS and how it is affecting Australian universities. Professor Sheil provided interesting and informative insights into the challenges faced by today's academics.
After the presentation, members of the audience participated in a lively question and answer session when Professor Sheil answered questions on ERA and competitive grant funding. There was also the opportunity for networking and refreshments in a collegial and informal environment at the conclusion of the presentation.
