The Institute for Glycomics offers Summer Scholarships to Griffith University students to introduce them to the exciting world of research, specifically within the field of glycoscience. It is also to encourage undergraduates to consider undertaking an honours or higher degree research program.

Each scholarship is valued at $1,000 paid in a single instalment on confirmation of completion of the research period.

Can I apply?

To be eligible you must:

  • be enrolled in 2nd or 3rd year science-based courses, ie. The scheme is open to 2nd and 3rd year students only
  • you are required as part of this application to supply information relating to a specific research topic/project you will undertake and have the topic/project approved by the relevant staff member of the Institute. A full list of research projects are available by contacting glycomics@griffith.edu.au
  • be available and committed to working on the chosen research topic/project for four weeks full-time during the November 2018 to February 2019 period
  • if the project is a collaboration with a researcher external to the Institute, at least 50% of the student's research MUST take place in Glycomics laboratory space
  • not be in receipt of any other scholarship or bursary

The Institute for Glycomics is a flagship biomedical research institute at Griffith University’s Gold Coast Campus. The Institute has some of Australia’s most renowned research leaders who undertake multidisciplinary research in various biological systems. A key research area within the Institute is the role of carbohydrates in mammalian systems, and in particular their involvement in various infectious diseases and cancer.  The Institute is a very busy and expanding research centre with a membership of approximately 2000 staff and postgraduate students.

In 2018/19 the Institute for Glycomics is offering Summer Scholarships to Griffith University students to undertake research within the field of glycoscience.  The research project must be undertaken during the November 2018 to February 2019 period for at least four weeks (full-time) duration.  The final decision on timing and duration will be decided between the student and supervisor, who must be a member of the Institute for Glycomics.

Payment is made on confirmation of completion of the research period and you are enrolled at Griffith University and sill meet eligibility requirements.
