Scholarship details

To be eligible, you must:

  • be an Australian citizen
  • be enrolled or eligible for admission, as a Griffith University Commonwealth Supported student, in Trimester 1 2024 (commencing* and continuing students)
  • have a GPA of 4 or above if a current/continuing student
  • be an Easts Rugby Union player.

*Non-school leavers are eligible to apply with an ATAR 62.55 or above (equivalent OP 15, IB 24 or above) and must be eligible for and accepted into a degree program at Griffith University commencing in Trimester 1 2024.

Achievements

  • Leadership and community: You must answer yes to “Are you involved in any community organisation or a registered member of an organisation or club” and insert “Easts Rugby Union” as your club.
  • Sports participation: Rugby union.

Statements

  • Personal statement: In 500 words or less, detail your career goals in your chosen sport.
  • Supporting documentation: you must upload the following, please use only the following formats- pdf, word, jpeg or excel, we can only guarantee these formats will be accepted:
    • Other: If your tertiary education history was NOT completed at Griffith University, you must upload a copy of your transcript.

Shortlist information

Shortlisted applicants may be required to attend an interview with the scholarship selection panel.

Selection will be based on the academic standing of the applicant and the likelihood of success in the chosen program with preference being given to:

  • two commencing male athletes who are Easts Rugby Union players
  • one commencing female athlete who is an Easts Rugby Union Rugby 7s player
  • one commencing or continuing female athlete who is an Easts Rugby Union Rugby 7s or 15s player.

Value

Maximum value is $5,000 payable in instalments. Instalments of $2,500 are payable for each full-time enrolled trimester that conditions are met, up to the maximum value of the scholarship (pro-rata payments of $1,250 are made for part time enrolment).

Payment

Payments are made up to six weeks after the census date subject to the recipient satisfying the scholarship terms and conditions.

Please note, payments made whilst studying part-time may be taxable.

To remain eligible for the scholarship, recipients will be required to:

  • remain enrolled at Griffith University
  • maintain good academic standing at Griffith University
  • continue membership and on-field play with Easts Rugby Union.

The above conditions are verified each trimester at census date.

If a scholarship recipient fails to successfully meet these conditions, scholarship payments may be withheld, or the scholarship may be terminated. A recipient must show cause to the Student Financial Support and Scholarships Office why the scholarship should not be terminated.

Applications, including any supporting documentation, must be completed and submitted by the closing date.

Applicants may be shortlisted and be required to provide additional information.

Griffith University reserves the right to withdraw an advertised scholarship at any time.
