Director, Office for Research
Professor Andrea Bishop earned a PhD in Physical Chemistry from Monash University before taking up a post-doctoral fellowship at the Angstrom Advanced Battery Centre, Uppsala University. Following several years lecturing in chemistry, Professor Bishop transitioned into series of increasingly senior strategic and operational leadership roles, including as deputy to the Dean of Science at Charles Sturt University and then as Director of Research for the same institution. She undertook a brief secondment to the Australian Research Council’s Strategy Branch in 2013.
Professor Bishop also holds a qualification in education and a MBA, informing her professional roles. She is a strong advocate for the use of robust business intelligence in decision-making and has broad experience in driving positive organisational change.
Professor Bishop joined Griffith as Director of the Office for Research in 2015 and leads with the simple vision: to facilitate research excellence. This is achieved by focusing the Office teams outwardly to provide highly skilled, professional support and advice to the Griffith research community.
The Director operates as part of the Griffith research portfolio’s leadership team to enhance the University's research profile. This is underpinned by activities such as: assisting in the establishment and management of strategic partnerships; identifying and developing significant research opportunities; ensuring currency and compliance with relevant legislative, statutory and policy requirements; and informing strategic decisions through research opportunity, activity and performance analyses.
