Griffith University Systems Modelling Group
The Griffith University Systems Modelling Group is dedicated to learning, research and development of systems thinking and modelling with a special focus on climate change adaptation problems. The research group brings together Griffith University experts in methodologies including Systems Thinking, System Dynamics, Bayesian Modelling and Social Network Analysis and applies them to a range of problems involving ecological, social and economic aspects of human interaction with nature.
Biodiversity and Climate Change Virtual Laboratory
The Biodiversity and Climate Change Virtual Laboratory (BCCVL) is a “one stop modelling shop” that simplifies the process of biodiversity-climate change modelling. Its mission is to connect the research community to Australia’s national computation infrastructure by integrating a suite of tools in a coherent online environment where researchers can access data and perform data analysis and modelling.
In 2015 the BCCVL was the winner of the Queensland iAward for research and development. The iAwards honours companies at the cutting edge of technology innovation and recognises the achievements of home-grown Australian innovators.
Terra Nova is an Australian Climate Change Adaptation Information Hub. It exists to support more effective climate change adaptation research and responses by improving the accessibility and availability of climate change adaptation data and information. It allows the discovery and sharing of information and research data on nationally significant sectors and regions that are most vulnerable to climate change threats. It also gives access to adaptation decision support tools and interactive climate model visualisations.
South East Queensland Climate Adaptation Research Initiative
The South East Queensland Climate Adaptation Research Initiative (SEQ CARI) was the first comprehensive regional study of climate change adaptation for human settlements in Australia, and one of just a few worldwide. Its comprehensive nature was borne out through its coverage of five human settlement sectors - urban planning and management; coastal management; physical infrastructure related to local government; emergency management; and human health.

- SEQ CARI decision support tool - this tool maps relationships between sectors, policies, program and decisions.
Climate Resilient Decision Support Toolkit
The above tools are also accessible from the Climate Resilient Decision Support Toolkit which encompasses a broader range of climate adaptation tools.
Drawing upon the latest developments in information communication technology, biophysical modelling and social services, Griffith University has developed a suite of decision support tools to help policy makers, planners and managers undertake climate-related impact modelling and risk assessments and identify adaptation strategies and options.
