Sustainable Development Goals

Griffith University is aligned with the United Nation's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and is committed to addressing the global challenge of poverty and promoting sustainable development by leveraging our resources, expertise, and partnerships to have a meaningful impact.

Confirmed candidates in their second year of candidature (FTE) can apply for a reduced tenure scholarship to commence in  January, April, July or October each year. Please refer to the Application Dates tab below for details on when to apply.

Each year, a limited number of merit-based scholarships are available to continuing research candidates who have successfully confirmed their candidature and are progressing well with their research. The Confirmed Candidate Scholarship Scheme is designed to provide financial support to outstanding research candidates, with the purpose of accelerating progress to thesis submission.

Successful candidates will be awarded a reduced tenure Griffith University Postgraduate Research Scholarship (GUPRS).

International candidates who are awarded a Confirmed Candidate Scholarship will also be awarded a reduced tenure Griffith University International Postgraduate Research Scholarship (GUIPRS) to cover the cost of tuition fees.

Continuing research candidates will be considered who:

  • Are enrolled in a PhD or research program at Griffith University and are able to enrol full-time for the duration of the scholarship
  • Have completed a minimum of 12 months equivalent full-time doctoral candidature; and no more than two years equivalent full-time doctoral candidature at the applicable scholarship commencement date
  • Are confirmed in their candidature
  • Will not be in receipt of any other full living allowance scholarship during the tenure of the scholarship
  • Hold an academic qualification or have relevant research experience that can be classified as Honours 1, or equivalent.

Successful candidates will be awarded a reduced tenure Griffith University Postgraduate Research Scholarship (GUPRS).

Prior to submitting their application, Research candidates must submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) via email to their Research Convenor outlining their academic basis for scholarship eligibility (i.e. qualifications, publications etc.), confirming that they meet all other eligibility criteria, as well as providing a referee report from their current principal supervisor. Written support for the EOI from the HDR Convenor should be submitted with the application.

Upon notification from the Research Convenor that the EOI was successful, applicants must submit a Confirmed Candidate Scholarship application form and other supporting documentation to GGRS via myGriffith / My program by the scholarship application due date.

Applications must include:

  1. A covering letter
  2. A Confirmed Candidate Scholarship Scheme application form (available via myGriffith > My program)
  3. A referee report from your current principal supervisor
  4. An updated research outline and completion plan
  5. An updated CV
  6. Evidence of research publications or other research outputs (achieved since original application).
  7. Written endorsement of the EOI from your Research Convenor

Incomplete or late applications will not be accepted.

To be eligible to apply for a scholarship under the Confirmed Candidate Scholarship Scheme candidates must have consumed no less than 12 months and no more than 2 years candidature (FTE)  at the applicable scholarship commencement date. Candidates may only apply for this scheme once.
