AMP has partnered with Griffith University to create an online Master of Financial Planning degree that combines theoretical coursework with practical, real-life experience as a financial adviser.
The professional development initiative aligns to AMP’s commitment to raise standards in the financial advice industry and improve its perception as a profession.
To support this, AMP announced in 2014 that all its advisers would either need to become a Certified Financial Planner® certification, hold a masters-level qualification in financial planning or achieve the Fellow Chartered Financial Practitioner designation.
AMP’s Academy Professional Development Manager Louise Trevaskis says the joint initiative with Griffith underpins AMP’s commitment to improving professional standards in financial advice.
"AMP is committed to delivering high-quality financial advice that makes a real difference in people’s lives," she says.
Through this program, candidates not only achieve a qualification with one of Australia’s leading academic institutions, they also gain practical financial planning experience, as well as access to employment opportunities within the AMP network on completion.

Griffith also offers a Graduate Certificate of Financial Planning in conjunction with AMP, which serves as a foundation and entry point to the masters degree.
AMP’s Adviser Academy is also integrated into the masters program and is separately delivered to career changers and graduates as a structured pathway to a professional financial advice career in the AMP network.
Griffith University Discipline Head of Finance and Financial Planning Associate Professor Mark Brimble says the co-created postgraduate qualifications are the evolution of a partnership dating back to 2007.
"We are delighted to partner with AMP, which allows the provision of a financial planning program that strengthens educational opportunities within industry" he says.
"It’s also a great opportunity for Griffith University to continue to engage with such a reputable company like AMP."
AMP’s Griffith relationship is in addition to the AMP University Challenge, a national competition that aims to increase awareness of financial planning as a career choice for university graduates.
