HOW TO APPLY
Firstly, you need to have an idea of the country you would like to visit and a rough idea about the type of internship you would like to do.
Your volunteer role has a strong focus in either:
- Social responsibility: role working for/alongside marginalised / disadvantaged individuals, families or communities (outreach or community development focus)
- Environmental responsibility: role preserving flora or fauna
- Sustainability: role that examines/fosters how to “meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs” (United Nations, 1987).
Secondly, complete this quick 1-minute form with your preferences here. We will then send you more information about specific projects within your area of interest and instructions on how to apply.
Funding your trip
There are a range of expenses that you will need to be mindful of when budgeting for your overseas program. These include, but are not limited to:
- tuition fees (exchange students do not pay tuition to the partner university)
- visa application fee, including travel to another city for an interview if necessary
- international flights and in-country transport
- daily living expenses
- spending money.
Griffith University aims to provide one grant (scholarship) to each student on an approved overseas program. The grant is for you to keep and is to support your program expenses.
Grant values vary from $250 to $8,000 depending on the program type, location and credit point value.
Eligible students can apply for an OS-HELP loan which is a loan scheme provided by the Australian Government specifically to support overseas study. It is not considered a grant, therefore approved students can receive this loan as well as a grant.
In 2018, the maximum OS-HELP loan amount is $6,665 (studies outside Asia) or $7,998 (studies in Asia).
