As an international student it is your responsibility to be aware of your visa conditions so they are not breached. For further information or assistance, visit the Department of Immigration and Border Protection website.
Please note, if you are under 18 years of age you must maintain accommodation, support and general welfare arrangements that have been approved by Griffith University, unless you are staying in Australia with a Department of Immigration and Citizenship-approved relative. You must not change those arrangements without the approval of Griffith University.
Checking your visa expiry date and status
You can check your visa information online at any time through Visa Entitlement Verification Online (VEVO). This is a free service that will give you information about your visa's expiry date as well as any conditions or other requirements attached to your visa. As most visas are now electronic and do not require a label in your passport, you should regularly check your visa status and requirements to ensure you do not breach any visa conditions.
Undergraduate and postgraduate students
The conditions of your student visa include maintaining an enrolment load that enables you to finish your studies within the standard duration of your program and visa. This information is noted on your Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE).
Trimesters from 2017
From 2017, Griffith will be teaching across three trimesters, rather than two semesters. Please read our trimester information to understand how this affects your visa requirements.
Can I remain in Australia while my thesis is being marked?
All postgraduate research students are granted a further six months on top of the normal visa expiry date. This will allow you the flexibility to remain in Australia while your thesis is being marked. You will need to make sure you have OSHC for the duration of your student visa including the additional six-month period.
Griffith English Language Institute students
You must attend at least 80% of your English language classes at Griffith English Language Institute (GELI); if you do not your student visa may be cancelled or not renewed.
Before you start your English course you will be sent your new Griffith student ID number and password. You must login to myGriffith before you arrive at GELI, change your password information and complete the ‘My Details’ section with your Australian address. During your English course if you change your Australian address, you must update your information in myGriffith within seven days.
