English for work, travel or personal reasons
No matter what your English level is, why you want to study English or how long you want to study, you can improve your English language skills at Griffith English Language Institute (GELI). You will study with students from many other countries and have a unique opportunity to develop lifelong friendships.
While you are at GELI, our caring staff will do their best to ensure that you not only develop your English language skills but also enjoy and benefit from your time at Griffith University and in Australia more generally.
Entry and duration
You may join an English language program with any English proficiency level from elementary to advanced, and study for the period suited to your purposes. You will be placed in a class between Level 1 and Level 6 based on the GELI placement test taken on arrival or your proficiency test results.

If you are placed in Level 1, 2, 3 or 4, you will develop language skills for everyday communication: speaking, listening, reading, writing, grammar and vocabulary, and pronunciation.
At Levels 5 and 6, you will further improve your communication skills and also practise academic skills that will be useful for work or further study. If you change your study preferences and decide that you would like to apply for a Griffith University degree or Griffith College diploma at a later date, you will already be part way along the pathway to undertake further study.
You will be placed in either morning classes (8:15am – 12:45pm) or afternoon classes (1:00pm – 5:30pm). It's not possible to choose your class time but we will consider any special circumstances you may have when both class times are available. You can use your free time to take full advantage of our after-class workshops, Activities program, the Australian lifestyle and opportunities to work around your study schedule.
