Online delivery

Griffith English Language Institute has been delivering English language programs to international students for more than 30 years and now these award-winning English language programs are being delivered online.

Why study online?

Experience the award-winning GELI program from the comfort of your own home. Commence your English language pathway to a Griffith University degree program while you are in your home country with no need to delay your study plans.

You will have the opportunity to actively participate in GELI’s interactive virtual classroom with 20 hours of teacher-student contact per week. The online program is modelled on the face-to-face program and aims to offer the same high quality experience.

Receive specialised GELI support services including free academic workshops taught by a GELI teacher, access to an International Student Advisor, and take part in virtual social activities to practise English outside class with an opportunity to make new friends.

Our online course will:

  • Replicate face-to-face study
  • Deliver a quality learning experience
  • Use innovative processes to ensure students reach their learning potential
  • Ensure students are supported through their English language journey

What I enjoy most about GELI online is that I can study from the comfort of home and communicate with others easily. Online class requires more self-motivation and time management so it gives me another new learning skill and an experience that will help me with being a more independent successful student. Specific programs that we use regularly are easy to understand and study materials are well organised, detailed and sorted. Of course these technologies are pretty challenging for all of us, but once you understand it has many benefits.

GELI classes have a maximum of 18 students from all over the world, and most classes have students from between five and eight nationalities. In online classes you might be studying with students who are already in Australia, in your country, or in another country.

You will be placed in a class according to your English level. GELI’s online course has the same quality learning activities and assessment as on campus classes.

You will work on all English language skills using a combination of tools to learn, submit your work, communicate with other students and your teachers, and complete assessments.

Just as in GELI’s face-to-face classes, you will be expected to join in all class activities and complete homework.

Assessment and Pathways

The assessment schedule is the same as for face-to-face classes and depends on your class level. You may have a weekly assessment task completed in class, or assessment tasks to be completed out of class. You will also have exams to demonstrate your proficiency level in each skill.

As is usual, GELI will check your progress through assessment every five weeks and you will be able to move up through GELI class levels and meet entry to your next program.

GELI will advise you and also Griffith University or Griffith College when you have successfully completed your English course and met entry requirements.

Student experience and support

Online orientation will take place as usual on the Thursday prior to course commencement and GELI will send you further information to prepare you to participate. During the Orientation, you will practise using our online platforms so that you will be ready to join your class.

GELI staff are always happy to help students. You can contact the GELI Student Centre by emailing or, if it’s about your class work, you can ask your teacher.

We are confident you will find GELI's online classes high quality, engaging and interactive but if you choose to withdraw after you have commenced study you may defer the balance of your English language program until you are able to study on campus in Australia.
