Tutor guide: About the HELP Yourself online resources
The HELP Yourself Resources are aimed at students with English as an additional language (EAL) who are transitioning to or already studying in degree programs at Griffith University. The material targets language proficiency levels at around CEFR B2+ to C1 (approx. IELTS 5.5 - 7.0) aiming to complement and supplement EnglishHELP face-to-face provision and to cultivate independence.
The HELP Yourself Resources development project comprised three phases. Phase 1 involved a targeted desk audit of quality online free interactive academic language and learning material available from websites nationally and internationally. Phase 2 matched these resources to Griffith EAL student needs, identified via staff and student surveys and an analysis of EnglishHELP consultation comments by tutors extracted from the database. Phase 3 involved the development of in-house material using Moovly and Articulate Storyline to produce 20-25 short animated videos followed by interactive, contextualised exercises on these identified areas of student need.
