Our Bachelor of Medical Science is a two-year degree that provides high-achieving secondary school leavers an accelerated pathway in to Griffith’s Doctor of Medicine (provided you achieve a Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 5.0 for the program and achieve a minimum grade of ‘pass’ in the designated course ‘Human Skills for Medicine’).
Griffith's medical science degree will provide you with the knowledge and skills in modern biosciences and clinical sciences, as well as broader knowledge and skills in a number of non-science areas, including communication. You will develop knowledge and skills in the biological sciences and clinical sciences and understand how they can be applied to medicine, biomedical research and healthcare services.
In your first year, you will be introduced to the basic sciences underpinning medical science:
- genes and disease
- law and ethics
You will also undertake a course in "Human Skills in Medicine" which provides you with knowledge and skills in communication and interaction with patients.
In second year, you will study these areas in greater depth and take medically focused courses in:
- infectious disease
- structural biochemistry
- molecular genetics.
You will also undertake a capstone course (Integrated Medical Sciences) which integrates and applies the knowledge of basic sciences learned in your first and second years.
On completion of the Bachelor of Medical Science you will be well-prepared for graduate medical training.
