Rehabilitation counselling is by definition interdisciplinary, playing a role in facilitating stakeholder collaboration and linking allied health services with employment goals.
“A rehabilitation counsellor is an allied health and human service professional who works with individuals experiencing injury, disability and/or social disadvantage to achieve occupational, personal and social goals. To achieve this, rehabilitation counsellors work with individual strengths and facilitate change in both the person and their environment” (RCAA, n.d., Home).
The rehabilitation counselling program covers theory and practical skills in areas such as
- vocational evaluation
- injury management
- job placement
- applied counselling
- disability studies
It also has a supervised fieldwork component, giving you the opportunity to apply theory to practice. The program will give you the knowledge and skills to work as a rehabilitation counselor in government, private and not-for-profit rehabilitation services.
Rehabilitation case management
The case management program comprises two semesters of part-time study in one of two specialisations:
- person-centred planning

Graduates of this program will be better prepared for careers in the personal injury, employment services and related industries and further develop applied understanding of:
- person-centred planning, case management theory, models, principles and practice as relevant to employment services, personal injury management and related practice
- effective communication with all key parties to the job search, matching, placement and maintenance process including job seeking employers and service providers
- vocational evaluation and vocational decision making processes.
