The Senior Learning Assistance Officer is an active member of a team supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students undertaking studies at Griffith University. The central role of the seven GUMURRII SSU Learning Assistance Officers is to increase postgraduate opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students who wish to pursue postgraduate studies at Griffith University. The role also incorporates support and advice for current postgraduate students by providing a culturally appropriate learning environment that supports these students to attain their goals.
The Senior Learning Assistance Officer works closely with the Indigenous Research Network in establishing pathways, partnerships and networks with both Griffith University and external tertiary education providers. The main focus of the ‘Grow your Own Strategy’ is to encourage, establish, build and maintain relationships with current and future undergraduate students to pursue postgraduate studies. This strategy includes the retention, progression and successful completion for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander postgraduate students at Griffith.
