Study at Griffith while you finish high school and gain credit towards a degree
If you are a high school student looking for a challenge, Griffith University’s Head Start program is designed for motivated Year 11 and Year 12 students to make a head start on their university studies.
There are two Head Start programs you can choose from
Head Start on Campus or Online
Through the Head Start on Campus or Online program you’ll learn through on-campus tutorials, workshops, lectures and group assignments, in addition to your school study load. To successfully complete a 10 credit point course, you will need to attend approximately two to four hours of lectures and tutorials each week.
Head Start at School
Through the Head Start at School program you’ll study the course content at your high school or through online modules, in addition to your school study load. Some students may occasionally need to attend on-campus experience days and exams as part of your course.
Head Start benefits
No course fees*
The Head Start program covers your tuition fees which will reduce the overall cost of your Griffith undergraduate degree.
Guaranteed admission (from T1, 2024)
To give you certainty about your future, we’re introducing the Year 12 Head Start Offer Guarantee. Upon successful completion of your Head Start program and your Year 12 studies, you’ll be eligible for an offer to study one of more than 80 single and double degrees across a range of study areas.**
Earn credit towards a degree
Obtaining credit will allow you to reduce your university workload and fees when you start uni. Once you’ve completed the Head Start program, you’ll be eligible for credit transfer for a Trimester 1, Level 1 course (also known as a subject) at Griffith (up to 20 credit points).
Receive two adjustments***
You’ll be eligible to receive two (2.00) adjustments towards your ATAR when applying to eligible Griffith undergraduate degrees as part of the Year 12 Subject Adjustment Scheme.
Build skills and confidence
If you are a motivated high school student, taking on extra work can help boost school results and get you ready academically for first-year uni.
Get a taste for uni life
Mixing with first-year students lets you experience uni life and get a feel for how to balance social and study commitments after you leave school.
Get QCE recognised
Successfully completing your Head Start course will be recognised on your Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE) as two credits of advanced courses of study. However, it does not count towards the calculation of your ATAR.
[*] You will need to meet your personal study costs for items such as textbooks, stationery and photocopying.
[**] Students must meet the 2023 eligibility and entry requirements for Head Start and successfully complete both the Head Start program and Year 12 in 2023 to be eligible for the Year 12 Head Start Offer Guarantee for admission in 2024.
[***] Adjustments do not apply to the Bachelor of Medical Science and the Bachelor of Dental Health Science. The maximum adjustment you can receive under all pathways is capped at eight (8.00). For further information, refer to the Year 12 Subject Adjustment Scheme.
