About the scholarship
The scholarship is available to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander higher degree research candidates. It provides a living allowance of approximately AUD $26,682 (2017 rate, indexed annually) per annum;— paid as a fortnightly stipend, and a relocation allowance. Sick leave, maternity leave and leave of absence provisions also apply.
The scholarship is available to applicants of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent, who identify themselves as such, and are accepted by the community with which they are associated with as an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander.
Applicants must have completed, or expect to complete, a bachelors degree with honours equivalent to first or second class honours (2A) and be intending to enrol full-time in an approved doctoral or research masters program at Griffith University. Applicants with heavy care commitments, or who have a medical condition that precludes full-time study, may request consideration for award of a part-time scholarship.
The scholarship may be held for up to two years for a research masters program and up to three years for a doctoral program. A six month extension may be granted to doctoral candidates in certain circumstances.
How to apply
New applicants must follow the process for submitting an online application for a higher degree by research program, which also includes a section for scholarship application. Please note, unless the scholarship round is officially open, your online application will only be assessed for candidature.
Current HDR candidates or applicants with a current offer (not yet commenced) are required to follow a different process for submitting a scholarship application. Details can be found here.
Applicants may only apply a maximum of two times in a five year period for consideration in the scholarship ranking and selection process.
Scholarship offers will be announced in June 2017 and December 2017, after the scholarship rounds have closed. Successful applicants must commence their candidature by the published scholarship commencement date.
