Cliff Goddard is Professor of Linguistics. His research interests lie at the intersection of language, meaning, and culture. He has published widely in theoretical and descriptive semantics, language description and typology, pragmatics and ethnopragmatics, intercultural communication, and Australian English. He works mainly in the Natural Semantic Metalanguage (NSM) framework. Among his recent books are the edited collection Minimal English For a Global World: Improved Communication Using Fewer World (Palgrave, 2018), Ten Lectures on Natural Semantic Metalanguage: Exploring language, thought and culture using simple, translatable words. (Brill, 2018), and Words and Meanings, co-authored with Anna Wiezbicka (OUP, 2014).
