Your degree from Griffith will be a great start to your career. However, employers want to know 'What else have you done that shows you have the skills and qualities that we need"?
Getting involved with additional, co-curricular activities enables you to explore your career options, and develop skills, qualities and experiences employers seek. In other words, it enhances your employability.
Participating in BusinessPLUS will also ensure you make the most of your time at University by providing the opportunities to meet like-minded others and develop your networks (another important career strategy). We also know that students who participate in co-curricular activities during their degree are more likely to feel more connected to their studies and do better in their degree!
The BusinessPLUS program supports you to get involved with co-curricular activities that will assist your career development and enhance your employability.
The program offers a structure to follow over the course of your degree consisting of activities that will enable you to explore your career interests and develop the skills and experiences sought by employers.
You can get involved in the program at any time, and complete the activities when it suits you.
What does the program involve?
You don't have to do everything in BusinessPLUS, however you're encouraged to complete the program so that by the time you graduate you have developed a range of experiences and skills sought by employers.
To receive the BusinessPLUS Certificate and Griffith digital badge you will need to achieve the minimum level of activity in each element:
PLAN: Map out your BusinessPLUS experience by filling out the PLAN section of the workbook.
PREPARE: Complete the 4x seminars of the Career Skills Workshop Series:
Workshop 1: Self Awareness
Workshop 2: Strategies for finding work
Workshop 3: Applications
Workshop 4: Interviews and Professional Reputation
CONNECT: Interact with an industry mentor (minimum 1x mentoring interaction)
GAIN: Work experience - this can be paid work, internships or work experience (min. 100 hours)
CONTRIBUTE: Volunteer in your community (min. 20 hours)
ENRICH: Get involved with other professional development activities on campus and beyond (min 5 activities)
BUILD: Update your resume, LinkedIn profile and record a 1 min 'About Me' video.
BusinessPLUS is for any Griffith Business School student who wants to enhance their university experience and employability.
You can enrol in the program any time however we encourage you to get involved in the first half of your degree so that you can make the most of the opportunities on offer and build a strong portfolio of experiences and skills to share with future employers.
What do I get when I sign up to BusinessPLUS?
- BusinessPLUS online workbook (via the Pebblepad platform). This is where you can explore the opportunities on offer and record details of your activities to share with employers
- Access to a series of Career Management Workshops to build the skills and confidence to take your career forward.
- Support and resources for participating in industry mentoring, work experience, community engagement and a range of other career enriching experiences.
- Invitation to join the exclusive BusinessPLUS facebook group so you can be kept up to date with opportunities and network with peers.
What will I get on completion of BusinessPLUS?
- Griffith Business School official BusinessPLUS certificate and Griffith Credentials digital BusinessPLUS badge
- Most importantly you will have developed a portfolio of skills and experiences that will enhance your career development and help you stand out from the crowd when entering the workforce.
Do I get credit towards my degree?
BusinessPLUS will not contribute credit towards your degree, however it will provide you with a wealth of experience and knowledge that will help you get ahead in the workplace before you’ve even left university.
Do I have to do the activities in a particular order?
No. There is flexibility to complete the activities in the program whenever it best suits you, although we encourage you to enrol in the Career Management Workshop Series early in your experience as you will learn skills and knowledge that will support your involvement in the other activities.
What if I am already participating in some or all of the BusinessPLUS activities?
If you are already involved in or have already completed some of the activities in other areas of your life, fantastic! Complete reflections in your BusinessPLUS workbook with details of what you have done.
Completing these reflections allows you to keep a record of what you have done which will help when designing your resume and preparing for interviews. Getting involved in BusinessPLUS will also help you to get involved with additional experiences, connect with like-minded peers, and gain recognition from Griffith for your efforts by receiving an official certificate of program completion and digital badge
Is there a cost to participate
No, BusinessPLUS is a free, co-curricular program offered to all students enrolled in a Griffith Business School program of study.
