Ruth McPhail

Professor Ruth McPhail

Head of Department

Ruth is a Professor of Human Resource Management. She is on the Board of ANZAM and is Standards Australia’s representative to ISO on the development of a standard for Diversity and Inclusion. Ruth is a nationally recognized educator receiving both an OLTC citation and University Teacher of the Year Award in 2015.

Ruth has wide experience in management consulting, human resource management and leadership.

Amie Shaw

Dr Amie Shaw

Deputy Head of Department

Amie Shaw is a Senior Lecturer in Human Resource Management and the Deputy Head of Department for Employment Relations and Human Resource Management in the Griffith Business School. Her teaching expertise includes a variety of undergraduate and postgraduate, online and face-to-face courses in the areas of human resource management, work and employability and employment relations. Amie received a teaching excellence award in 2017 and was nominated for a national teaching award in 2019. She has a specific interest in teaching and developing innovative curriculum and pedagogical practices in the first year and capstone courses. Her discipline research is in the broad field of human resources management with a focus on diversity and inclusion, career development and employability capital; with scholarship research focusing on graduate employability and student success. Amie holds a PhD from Griffith University and an undergraduate degree with honours from the University of Waikato, New Zealand.

Alannah Rafferty

Associate Professor Alannah Rafferty

Director of Research

Alannah's research is in the fields of organisational change (with a focus on change attitudes) and transformational leadership. Alannah's recent publications are in the areas of change readiness, change attitudes, and employees' subjective experiences of organisational change. Before joining Griffith University in 2017, Alannah was at the University of New South Wales for seven years. Alannah holds a PhD from Queensland University of Technology, a Master of Psychology from The University of Queensland, and a Bachelors (Hons) from Macquarie University.

Associate Professor Rebecca Loudoun

Rebecca's research is in the broad field of work health and safety where she considers how organisational policies and practices intersect with the quality of employees’ working experiences and non-work lives. Rebecca has more than two decades experience researching and teaching in the area of work health and safety, including as lead researcher on more than 10 funded research projects in the last 10 years.

Ryan Gould

Dr Ryan Gould

Director of Learning and Teaching

Teaching in the tertiary environment since 2008, Dr Ryan Gould is the recipient of numerous teaching awards, citations and commendations. Heavily influenced by the transformational school of education he seeks to challenge students as they explore the strategic management of employment relationships through authentic learning experiences. More specifically, Ryan’s teaching has concentrated in the areas of performance management, organisational behaviour and the dynamics of workplace relationships. Holding a PhD in Strategic Management, his thesis qualitatively explored the complex evolution of business models in the New South Wales Registered Clubs sector. Ryan is proud to have supervised PhD candidates in the areas of Implementation and Employee Health and Well-Being.
