Located on the Nathan campus, the EcoCentre is situated within Toohey Forest.
Toohey Forest is remarkable for the fact that at only 10km from the CBD, here is a 260 ha preserved sample of the forest vegetation that once covered most of Brisbane. It takes its name from James Toohey, one of the real estate moguls who, flush with a gold-rush fortune bought up in this area in the mid to late 1800’s and whose descendants relinquished ownership in 1945. Another was the notorious Patrick Mayne, who owned tracts of land on and around adjacent Toohey Mountain, now also known as the Mayne Estate Reserve.
Home to world-class expertise in the environment, corporate sustainability, Asia and the emerging bio-sciences, Nathan is the original Griffith campus. With more than 13,900 students and situated in tranquil, native bushland on the edge of Toohey Forest, Nathan campus is a short walk or bus ride from our Mt Gravatt campus or a 10 minute drive from central Brisbane. Public transport connects the campus to Mt Gravatt, Garden City shopping centre and the Brisbane CBD.
