Conceptual frameworks and sustainable solutions

In this online training course you will be given an introduction to the history, theory and principles of Integrated Water Management (IWM) and will investigate the conceptual frameworks and practices used to critically analyse water management problems and identify sustainable solutions.

The course will demonstrate the relevance of context-specific interventions and stakeholder participation as being essential to IWM in practice. A diverse range of practitioner led case studies will also allow you to develop an applied knowledge of IWM.

WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR?

This course is for those wanting to gain a foundational understanding of the what, why and the how of integrated water management (IWM). This course will benefit anyone involved or interested in water management, including professionals from local or state government, utilities, consulting firms, NRM groups, researchers and students. You do not need a background in water management to enroll, just a passion and interest to drive positive change.

DELIVERY: This course is delivered fully online over 4 weeks

TIME COMMITMENT: Approximately four (4) hours per week, including weekly 2-hour live sessions plus study material and activities

Meet the facilitators

Dr Brian McIntosh

Brian is a water sector educator, researcher and capacity developer with significant experience in the design and delivery of applied and inter-disciplinary education, training and capacity development programs for individuals, organizations and sectors.

He has designed and delivered professionally targeted, problem and work-based water management programs and courses to participants from 86 different countries, including having led the development and delivery of water management and engineering Masters in Australia and the UK responsible for educating over 550 graduates now working globally. Currently he is managing a Program of activities on behalf of the Queensland Government designed to build whole of sector capacity to innovate in water model development and use.

Course Coordinator: Peter Wegener

Peter is a Senior Program Manager at the International Water Centre, Griffith University, where he has been closely involved in the development and delivery of the Master of Integrated Water Management Program, as well as other capacity development and research projects. He has a strong interest in individual and community capacity development, through the provision of inclusive learning environments and encouragement of critical thinking and collaborative action.

Peter is passionate about working with others to improve how we manage water for the environment and society. He has experience in a variety of fields, including tertiary education, agricultural research and extension, and community development.
