Not so long ago, Associate Professor Caryl Bosman caught up with a previous recipient of financial support through Griffith University's Staff Giving Program.
As enjoyable as it was to become reacquainted, for Associate Professor Bosman the meeting also provided a deeper appreciation of the importance and impact of giving.
"It breaks my heart to see young people who have such ability and potential and yet who just don't have the support," says Associate Professor Bosman, Griffith University's Discipline Head of Urban and Environmental Planning and National Award-winning teacher.
"They really do it tough and somehow they still push through. I really admire that kind of determination."
That feeling was reinforced when Associate Professor Bosman met a former student who is now thriving in a senior planning role with the Queensland Government.
"Hearing about the success she was making in her life and career really brought home the value of Staff Giving and the scholarships it provides for students in need," says Associate Professor Bosman.
"Knowing how she had to struggle early on, it was lovely to see the change in her life and to realise the role that Staff Giving had played in her progress along the way."
