Fran’s expertise is primarily in the area of biological resource law, having spent over a decade advising governments on fisheries, aquaculture and biosecurity law followed by three years of research in genetic resources and intellectual property as part of her PhD.
She is now a Research Fellow with the Law Futures Centre coordinating a project on ecological governance in Northern Australia. The project relates to Commonwealth, Northern Territory, Western Australian and Queensland laws affecting proposed development in the north. She is also conducting further research on governance of aquatic genetic resources for use in a range of sectors.
