Prepare for university study
Your journey to Griffith College is about to start. Once you have accepted your offer, here are the next steps you need to consider while you prepare your move to Australia.
Moving to Australia
To help you prepare for your adventure down-under, we have put together some information to help you get to know your destination, plan your budget and information you may need if you are bringing family with you to Australia.
When to arrive
We recommend arriving in Australia at least a few days before orientation o give yourself enough time to settle in, recover from any jet lag and familiarise yourself with your new surroundings.
International students commencing at Griffith College can apply for airport reception, which takes you directly from the airport to your chosen accommodation.
Overseas health cover
As a condition of your student visa, you must maintain OSHC while in Australia. You must obtain this cover for the proposed duration of your visa. If you have an accident or health problem within Australia, you will be able to redeem some or all of your medical costs.
Griffith College can organise OSHC on your behalf. Further details will be provided in your letter of offer.
Phone and internet
Australia has a wide range of mobile/internet providers and plans available. Make sure you compare prices and options before choosing the service that is best for you. Remember, there is also many online options for keeping in contact with family such as Skype and Facebook Messenger.
Clothing in Australia
Students at Griffith College dress quite casually on campus. Most students wear shorts or jeans and a shirt almost year-round! Whilst it is quite warm in Queensland, it is wise to pack some long-sleeved clothes and jumpers for the cooler months as well as some smart-casual clothing such as dress pants and collared shirts for work and some more formal clothing for special events.
Don’t stress if you forget to pack anything. We have a variety of retail stores where you can purchase something after you arrive.
