As part of our coastal education program CoastEd, we offer a range of hands-on school holiday programs designed to inform and inspire. Run by our experts and in conjunction with the City of Gold Coast, the interactive programs are a great way to discover what it’s like to be a marine biologist and help protect the Gold Coast’s beautiful beaches. Community Coastal Tour

When: Friday 7  June 2019

Where: Main Beach to Point Danger

The Griffith Centre for Coastal Management will offer a guided bus tour for locals to significant historical coastal spots along the Gold Coast. The interactive tour will run for approximately 4.5 hours and include a number of stops along the entire stretch of the coast. Morning tea will be provided.

Marine Biologist Field Day (Mangroves, Shorebirds and mini beasts)

When: Thursday 18 April 2019

Where: Coombabah

Marine biology is all about collecting information about our coastal and marine environments in the field. Come along to learn about what is involved in the research into mangroves, birds and microscopic wildlife! Help collect some real data and contribute to citizen science.

Suitable for ages 7 years and over. Limited spaces available. Bookings required. $7.50 per child.

Marine Biologist Field Day (Coastal forests, rocky shores and micro plastics)

When: Friday 12 April 2019

Where: Burleigh Heads

Marine biology is all about collecting information about our coastal and marine environments in the field. Come along to learn about some of our fragile coastal environments such as coastal forests and rocky shores. Collect some real data for our in-house micro plastics research and contribute to some real citizen science.

Suitable for ages 7 and over. Bookings required. Limited spaces available. $7.50 per participant

BeachCare and Beach Craft

When: Monday 8 April 2019

Where: Broadbeach, beach end of Chelsea avenue, opposite the SLSC

Plant a native dune plant, care for the beach and craft a take-home forever reward for your help to look after the dunes today. Bring your family and name your plant!

COASTAL GARDENS

When: Wednesday 5 June 2019

Where: Broadbeach library

A presentation on native coastal dune plants and how they can be used for your garden!

Burleigh Headland Walk and Talk

When: Friday 26 April 2019 and Friday 28th of June 2019

Where: Burleigh Heads

Join us on an interpretive walk though Burleigh Headland National park and learn some of the history, ecology and management of the area. A must for locals who would like to learn more about their local area.
