Australia awards Indonesia training program: Eco-lodge site inspections
Griffith University in partnership with Sunshine Coast University are delivering a workshop at the Australia Awards Indonesia program on Sustainable Tourism for Regional Development in Eastern Indonesia. A one-week workshop was conducted in Labuanbajo, near Komodo National Park, Flores, Indonesia. As part of this workshop, Steve Noakes, a Director of Ecolodges Indonesia, discussed how ecotourism can contribute to biodiversity conservation and providing new opportunities for local communities with little exposure to tourism and little or no skills to engage in and benefit from tourism growth.

Adjunct Professor Steve Noakes will be presenting a talk this coming month at the Udayana University in Bali. Professor Noakes will be discussing the impact tourist and tourist operators have on communities, cultures and environments. Second East-West Dialogue on Tourism and the Chinese Dream
Members of GIFT have been invited to participate in the Second East-West Dialogue on Tourism and the Chinese Dream. The conference brings together academics, researchers, industry leaders and policymakers to discuss this year's theme on 'Sustainable Tourism and National Park Management'. The conference will be held on the 24th - 25th of September 2016 in Shanghai, China. Organisers have also announced that they will be taking in submissions of papers that relate to this year's theme.

10th China Tourism Forum - First Announcement and Call for Papers
Following the success of the last China Tourism Forum, The School of Hotel and Tourism Management of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, have announced the 10th China Tourism Forum to be held on 8-10 October at Nanjing Institute of Tourism and Hospitality, Nanjing, China.
The aim of this forum is to foster an open dialogue between researchers and practitioners on the current issues and trends relating to tourism development in China. Papers and presentations proposals relating to the aim and scope of the Forum are invited.

'Big Data - Big Deal?' - Tourism networking event
On 15 April GIFT held a tourism networking event with a keynote speech on 'Big Data - Big Deal?" by Associate Professor Bela Stantic, Institute for Integrated Intelligent Systems, Griffith University. The event provided a platform for getting a better understanding of the issues surrounding Big Data and raised new opportunities for tourism, arising from the potential that Big Data brings.
