From double degree to dream job
Jennifer Schwartz is living the dream. One month after her mid-year graduation with a double business degree, the 24-year-old landed a job on her doorstep. Jennifer works as a HR coordinator with the human resources team at Dreamworld on the Gold Coast.
It is an ideal career platform for the Griffith graduate who studied tourism and human resource management for her double degree. "HR has always interested me. I’m a people person and assisting people with problems in a fast, effective way is something I do well."
A large part of Jennifer’s job focuses on recruitment systems and online applications. She says advising people on how to apply for jobs at Dreamworld is an emerging duty as the inquiries continue to come in. She hopes to continue up the ranks to HR manager level and sees a world of opportunity in front of her with her qualifications. "Any big organisation needs a HR function to deal with the nitty gritty of recruiting, preparing contracts and general staff development. There are more and more opportunities opening up for HR graduates."
Jennifer has maintained her connection with Griffith Business School through its alumni advisory group. As a student she was an inaugural vice president of the Griffith Business Students Association. "I saw how the club would grow and flourish from there. It was a great association to be involved with. It gave me the opportunity to talk to students about what Griffith Business School had to offer. I’m very keen to return some of what I learned and got out of university, even at this stage of my short working life."
