Graduate Certificate in Leadership and Management
The Graduate Certificate in Leadership and Management is a customised program, designed to suit the professional development needs of an organisation. Aimed at middle managers and executives wishing to enhance their leadership skills or aspiring to more senior roles in their organisation, the program covers four important areas of leadership and management:
- team leadership
- creativity, and
The critical theories relating to each topic area are explored in the context of the specific organisation competencies and values, combining theory and practice to deliver a highly effective development program.
The program approaches the subject of leadership and management on two fronts. The first is leadership of self and leadership of others. Courses such as Developing Values-based Leadership (7509GBS) and Leading Teams (7510GBS) equip participants with a clear understanding of their personal leadership capabilities and the comprehensive range of skills required to engage, enable and empower individuals and diverse groups to achieve organisational objectives. In many instances these objectives are complex and, increasingly in the 21st century, involve situations or scenarios not previously experienced by the organisation.
The second part of the equation is creativity and innovation: the development of ideas (creativity) and the successful implementation of those ideas (innovation). Through courses such as Managing Creativity in Organisations (7513GBS) participants develop personal skills in imagination and creativity that enable them to navigate through complexity, creating new and effective approaches to meet known and previously unknown situations. At the same time this course provides participants with the capability to foster creative skills in others. Managing Organisational Transformation (7512GBS) builds on this, developing skills that take ideas from first thoughts to implementation. Participants are able to both recognise and manage the human factors at play in achieving significant changes, and to lead the development and implementation of ideas needed to deliver the level of transformation required to meet organisational objectives in increasingly complex environments.
