Chanelle Gandhi

As a designer, integrating design elements to bring joy and comfort to the users is very important to me. I have found that incorporating spatial awareness, colour theory, and a conceptual idea into a project brings the design to life. My projects revolve around these factors which has allowed me to create modern and engaging design outcomes.

My focus for these has always been on the flow of the space and how it would best be experienced by the occupants. Throughout my design process and drafting I am often visualising the space and imagining how it would look and feel for a user. Colour theory and spatial awareness are key aspects as these directly impact the inhabitant with their mood, productivity and well being.

Throughout my degree I have been awarded the Griffith Award for Academic Excellence for 2018, 2019 and 2020, as I have maintained high academic achievements for my assessments. Over the summer semester in 2019 I had the opportunity to participate in an internship at UAP (Urban Arts Project) with Ann-Maree Willett. This internship found me on the design team for one of the bars at the Woodford Folk Festival, Bob's Bar. That year the bar was to undergo a re-branding from Bill's Bar as it was being created in honour of the late Bob Hawke. This was one of the highlights of my degree!

Verdure refers to freshness and lush vegetation. This is something that is seen in abundance within the Verdure building. The aim is to promote positive mental health and wellbeing for students that choose to live within the verdure buildings. The aim is for the elements of the interior and exterior building to make an impact on the student's lives.

During my time studying at QCAD I was able to learn many valuable skills and participate in great learning experiences, after an internship and courses, I believe that I now have the confidence to contribute towards the Interiors industry and one day make a great impact.
