BADASS is a statement on the adversity and empowerment of women. Badass is loud, rude and through its borderline illegible design begs the reader to take the time to hear what it has to say; as it takes the quiet of the listener to empower the speech of others.

"During my time at Griffith, I have been awarded with a Griffith Award for Academic Excellence for 2018, 2019 and 2020. I was a finalist in the Adobe Creative Jam 2020. My team and I created MatesTrip, an app which promotes 'holiday at home' roadtrips with coastal conservation at the forefront."

Throughout my degree I have realised I have a passion for branding and identity in particular, and get great fulfilment creating designs that are bespoke, aesthetically pleasing and playful. I love experimenting with different mediums and enjoy implementing tactile typography and handmade elements in some of my projects.

My design process begins with pen to paper and brainstorming ideas before moving to the computer to begin the research process. With a previous degree completed in Criminology and Criminal Justice, I have a unique approach to addressing my design work through my research experience. During my degree I had the opportunity of participating in an internship with Liveworm, Gold Coast. This was a great opportunity to work on real client work and experience a working design studio.

In my final year of study I also began working with Lucy Hargrave in her graphic design studio Lucky and Son, where I was able to further develop and improve my skills learnt at QCAD. Both opportunities have taught me a lot about the industry and gained experience working on briefs in a different capacity to university briefs. I have been awarded Griffith Academic Achievement awards in 2018, 2019 and 2020.

News channels are prioritising attention over truth causing public confusion and distrust in mainstream information channels. I used my Graphic Design skills to create an interactive AR booklet experience that explains and explores what Fake News is. By presenting information in an exciting new way I encourage High School Students to think critically. What is true, what is false?

During my three years at QCAD I immersed myself in visual communication and fell in love with design. I have completed 6 internships at the creative studios: Brokat Studio, Art Work Agency, Jimmy Patch Creative, RACQ Publishing, Liveworm and Metagraphics.

I have also freelanced for multiple companies, most notably: MercerPR designing their print and digital collateral. I have developed skills that include: Digital, film and studio photography, Squarespace website creation, video editing, layout, animation, 3D design using Adobe dimension, AR experiences, UI, branding, social media content creation and more.

Overall, my time at Griffith pushed me to explore skills that I never thought I would learn. Looking forward to a future of further creative exploration.

This project looks at Ecological Futures; diving into the circular cycle focusing on the wastage within the holiday season. Wrapping paper is considered one of the top sources of wastage during holidays and this brand 'Circle' helps reduces the linear process of it. By recycling wrapping paper into new paper based product it will decrease the potential waste within the system.

Throughout my study at Griffith University I participated in LiveWorm design studio (Gold Coast), three times as a design student, learning new techniques and more about the environment in which a design studio presents. The 300 hours studio work helped boost my confidence in my own work, learn new skills from other designers, and undertake different tasks throughout the day.

Most of my works are inspired by exploring different aspects of Australian and Chinese culture and the relationship between the two. I am particularly interested in the role that language plays in design, and so most of my works explore unique aspects of both Chinese and English in a creative and engaging way.

The highlight of my degree was being able to do a semester of exchange at Shandong University of Arts in China. During this time I was able to learn more about Chinese culture as well as contemporary art and design in China. This experience gave me the confidence to step out and start creating work that was more experimental, combining both techniques I'd learnt at QCADand Shandong University of Arts.

Check-In: A mobile-based application that promotes stress management in millennials by providing an outlet in which to check-in with their mental health through voice recording sessions.

Nurture: A digital plant-management tool for users to help care for and keep track of their real-life collection of plants.

Chenjin: An original typeface utilising the traditional stroke rules of calligraphy.

Throughout my degree I was fortunate enough to obtain the Griffith Award for Academic Excellence in all three years, with my final GPA finishing at 6.45, a result I am incredibly proud of. As part of the Professional Practice internships offered through Griffith, I took part in the T3 2019 intake of Liveworm Gold Coast Studio. In March of 2019 I was also fortunate enough to work with the Gold Coast design lab Relative Creative to help facilitate the Future BNE Event held in Brisbane Town Hall. This was an event housing over 600 Queensland primary school students and involved teaching them throughout the day about the notions of design futuring and human-centred design.

This degree has been nothing short of the most fulfilling aspect of my life thus far, and I cannot wait to see what the future will bring in this next chapter of my life.

The 3 projects I've selected are representative of my 3 years of study, completing a Bachelor of Design (Graphic Design) and demonstrate areas which I wish to pursue in my career as a Graphic Designer.

Whilst studying I partook in 2 internships, the first being an external internship at Australian Design Studio from late 2018 to early 2019 where I was under the mentorship of Creative Director, Penny Panorea. I was the lead designer for 2 branding projects, completed a variety of design work for a real-estate business and learnt the flow of a design studio.

The second internship I had the chance to take part in was at Liveworm QCAD Southbank. As part of a second year subject, 'Professional Practice' I undertook real world projects for both the university and external clients. Throughout this internship, I worked alongside a team of other designers which made for a great experience.

In 2018 and 2019 I was awarded The Griffith Award for Academic Excellence.

I have a strong passion for illustration and creating visuals. The works presented are what I am most proud of during my studies at Griffith University’s Queensland College of Art and Design and tailor to what I love doing most; drawing and illustrating. Majoring in Graphic Design I have learnt how to strengthen my designs and apply them to real-world environments. I love creating traditionally and digitally.

I took part in the on-campus internship with Liveworm Studios twice over my studies and really enjoyed it. I gained hands-on studio experience, working for real clients and Griffith University. This industry experience taught me the importance of communication, time management and efficiency of working in a design studio with other colleagues. I learnt how to manage corporate body work and adhere to strict style guides, to be myself creatively, to improve my confidence and work, and to assess and take inspiration from colleagues.

My graphic design practice centres around sound, music and interactivity. My aim is to encourage and explore alternative ways to experience graphic design. Each of the key works incorporate sound and interactivity to connect with users. As a designer, my goal is to create work that enhances human lived experiences via a multi-sensory approach to graphic design practice.

I have been awarded 3 academic excellence awards in my studies in the Bachelor of Design.

Throughout my schooling years art was always a favourite subject of mine and so from here I decided I would take these skills into a more digital direction and study graphic design. My time at QCAD has given me the opportunity to learn and develop my creative skills in a number of different areas such as illustration, product design, photography and more.

I have taken part in the Liveworm internship program, which has been a highlight of my time studying at QCAD.

Type Rules was made as part of an assessment whilst on my exchange in Canada. It was made as a guide for typography rules and structures that can be used throughout my career.

Three is a more conceptual project exploring 3D shapes and how they can be manipulated.

Be a Man! Be Yourself is a booklet created to tackle toxic masculinity in young kids.

Whilst studying at QCAD, I was able to participate in two overseas exchanges. I spent one semester at the University of Leeds in England studying Typography Theories, as well as participating in a studio class and having a photography class as part of an elective subject. Afterwards, my second semester was spent at the Ontario College of Art and Design (OCADU) in Canada. I participated in practical hands on classes such as my Typography structures class, Graphic Design class and History of Typography. I also took an Introduction to Advertising class as an elective. Both of these exchanges were amazing experiences and helped really shape me as a designer. It was a great opportunity to witness how design is viewed in different countries and to view design in a different perspective.
