In 2021, Nathan campus celebrated its first student designed and installed mural to be completed as a result of QCAD LiveArt’s Public Art electives. Titled ‘Growing Here’, the stunning floral composition created by student, Niamh Flynn, draws deeply from the natural bushland surrounding Nathan campus and its integral presence underscoring the student experience.

‘While onsite I was amazed at the beauty of the surrounding landscape that was so close to the campus,’ explained Niamh.

‘I picked out soft colours and floral shapes from the native flora and used it in this design to create a calm, welcoming space with a flowing composition that leads you into Nathan campus’.

Using the ‘Grows at Griffith’ app to research local flora, Niamh chose four plants to feature in her design. She represents Wattle, Banksia, Blue Commelina and Eucalyptus plants in soft but striking colours, reflecting the natural tones of the Toohey forest.

‘Growing Here’ was installed by the class under the guidance of QCAD lecturer Simon Degroot in QCAD LiveArt elective subject Public Art 1, September 2021.
