Design

This program prepares you for professional practice as a commercial designer. By combining practical training and theoretical knowledge with an awareness of the social, environmental and industrial implications of design work, the program equips you for a dynamic future in industries that demand high professional standards and value creativity and innovative thinking.

The first year focuses on core industry-related activities and projects and the development of ideas and problem-solving techniques.

You must choose one of three studio majors
  • visual communication design
  • interior design
  • product design

Subsequent years involve undertaking an independent project and professional studies, and preparing a professional portfolio.

Note: No portfolio is required for this degree.

Career outcomes

Griffith design graduates have an outstanding record in gaining employment locally, nationally and internationally.

Visual communication design

You will be equipped for a stimulating career in the visual design industries, including print and corporate design, publishing and packaging, advertising and marketing, television and digital media.

Interior design

You will graduate with the skills to handle challenging roles in the retail, hospitality, domestic and commercial sectors, which require people with a highly developed understanding of aesthetics, safety and functionality in the design and development of interior spaces and fittings.

Product design

You will be sought after in the design, production and manufacturing sectors, particularly where products, furniture, lighting fixtures, packaging, exhibitions and trade shows, film and television modelling and set design, signage and environmental graphics are required.

After successful completion of an honours year, graduates will be eligible for membership of the Design Institute of Australia.

Master of Design Futures

This one year full time program is about design as it will be, rather than design as it is. More about this program...

We have no particular preference as to one computer platform or another, other than to make note that the vast majority of Graphic Design and Advertising studios, here in Australia, are Mac based. While the majority of Interior and Product design studios are PC based. The other consideration would be that the new Mac with the Intel chip will run in Windows mode or Mac mode with no loss of power. This enables you to run Windows only software or Mac only software.
