Salvatore 'Sam' Di Mauro has practised as a furniture designer/maker since 1969. After qualifying as a furniture craftsperson, Sam completed studies in art and design, focusing on the relationship between vernacular culture, object and environment. He has lectured in creative design at QCA since the 1980s. He has held solo exhibitions in Australia and Japan. His artworks are held by the Queensland Art Gallery, the State Library of Queensland, Global Arts Link (Ipswich), Brisbane City Gallery, Tokogado Gallery (Kyoto, Japan) and Arts Queensland. His recent commissions have included public artwork for Innisfail and the Childers Backpacker Memorial. Sam is currently investigating the translation of time and place, and the opportunities for vernacular culture to be showcased within a community.
