Russell Craig teaches drawing and printmaking. His initial qualification in art was in Melbourne where he attained a painting fellowship with the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology. During the mid 1980s he received training in the American lithographic tradition with the Tamarind Institute (USA). In 2003 he was awarded a Masters of Visual Arts (MVA) through Griffith University’s postgraduate research program. His artwork includes mainly works on paper, lithography, colour laser prints, paper works, collage, mono-prints and drawings. He has coordinated and curated eight exhibitions within Australia and three overseas touring exhibitions.
His research interests include cultural appropriation and the influences of art exchanges within Asian and Pacific countries. Russell has had artist residencies in Japan, China, New Caledonia and Vietnam. He has assisted in the establishment of Memorandums of Understanding (MOU) with three Japanese art universities. He has had a number of solo and group exhibitions, some of which have been in overseas countries. His work is held by the Queensland Art Gallery, Darwin Art Gallery, Australian Embassy in Vietnam, Griffith University Collection, Brisbane City Gallery and a number of Queensland regional galleries.
