Contact details for Mr Alan Owen
Alan Owen lectures in the field of printmaking and drawing. His expertise includes screen printing, etching and relief printing, and associated installation and photo-fabrication processes. Within this context his specific interest lies in the potential of print media to provide links between the traditional references and contemporary concerns of visual arts practice. He has contributed to the production of the QCA Print Portfolios which are held by the Australian National Gallery, the Queensland Art Gallery and major regional and interstate institutions. He has been actively involved in access workshops and community arts ventures, assisting in setting up printmaking facilities in the Brisbane area.
Alan previously studied literature and philosophy at the University of London. This was followed by years of extensive travel in Europe, the Middle East, North Africa, India and South East Asia. Since completing his training as an artist/teacher in England and Australia, his work has developed from a wide range of personal, cultural and environmental themes, including the changing structures and configurations of architecture and the built environment. He is currently undertaking a Master of Visual Arts, exploring connections between urban development and patterns of social change
