Laini Burton's research interests include body politics and gender theory, critical theory of Spectacle, Situationism, contemporary art criticism and contemporary Australian Art.
She was awarded her Doctor of Visual Arts in 2006 from Griffith University. Her Doctoral project centred on power and agency achieved through feminine masquerade and carnival.
Laini's teaching focuses on critical examination of the human body in visual culture, as well as the construction of national identity in contemporary Australian art practice. In 2011, Laini was the recipient of a Griffith Award for Excellence in Teaching, in the category Early Career Award.
