Course Outline

Extend your knowledge of exposure, apertures, shutter speeds and depth of field by developing creative photographic techniques and using advanced SLR camera settings.

Learn about the benefits of RAW file formats and use Photoshop to further develop your understanding of levels, curves, and selections to bring out the best of your photographs.

Print out your images on the latest archival Epson printers. Ideal for amateur photographers with a basic knowledge of photography and digital imaging. Students will produce three (3) archival prints.

 

Required Materials

Students are to supply their own:

  • SLR Digital camera
  • 1GB USB Memory Stick
  • Notebook and pen

 

Information

Teachers:      Alan Hill and Isaac Brown (of LIVEimage at QCA) - South Bank

For several years, Alan Hill was the Photographer and Image Library Manager at the Australian Sports Commission in Canberra. He has photographed many of Australias elite and up and coming athletes at the Australian Institute of Sport, including covering the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne. Alan was also responsible for managing the National Sport Information Centres collection of 40,000+ images and transitioning the organisation from film to digital. Throughout this posting he continued exhibit his own photographic work. Having completed his Bachelor of Photography (First Class Honours) with the Queensland College of Art, Griffith University, Alan has returned to the College to found and manage the LIVEimage photography facility with fellow graduate, Isaac Brown.

Isaac Brown has had a diverse career in photography and the imaging industry. Starting out in the National Archives of Australia, Isaac worked in the Preservation Department scanning, printing and photographing archival photographs and negatives. Following this, he relocated to London, he worked at Sothebys auction house in the Cecil Beaton photographic archive and also as a colour editor in the pre-press department. In addition to these postings, since graduating from the Queensland College of Art with a Bachelor of Photography (First Class Honours) he has maintained a freelance practice. With fellow photographer Alan Hill, Isaac has returned QCA in 2007 as a founding manager of the LIVEimage photography facility.
