Course Outline

For those already familiar with basics of HTML web design – add extra functionality to a basic 6-page web site.  In this hands-on course you will optimise a 6 page website using industry standard software, Adobe Photoshop CS5 and Adobe Dreamweaver CS5. Students will learn more about HTML, CSS and javascript, as well as learn how to optimise a web site for fast and consistent browsing using CSS and different file formats, and add basic php functionality to your site.  Basic knowledge of Photoshop and Dreamweaver is essential for this course.

Session 1:

  • Introduction to image and file formats and compression for the web
  • Design or redesign a web site layout in Adobe Photoshop to incorporate moving content
  • Design and produce an animated gif in Adobe Photoshop ready for the web
  • Produce a “flash” photographic slideshow using After Effects, ready for the web


Session 2:

  • Utilise opensource Lightbox code to add a gallery to your website
  • Add iFrames to your website for scrolling text within a static page
  • Add an interactive php “contact us” form to your site
  • Streamline, optimise and configure your site using meta data and CSS
  • Define your site, ready for export to the web


Required Materials

Students are to supply their own:

  • 1GB USB Memory Stick
  • Notebook and pen
  • Content and an idea for your own 6-page gallery-style website (not essential)
