Course Outline
For those already familiar with the basics of digital pre-press and design. Develop and fine-tune your skills in the design, assembly and preparation of a diverse range of print projects. You will produce a creative and technically correct 12-page booklet. This course will also further familiarise you with Adobe InDesign CS5. Previous experience using a PC or Macintosh is an essential pre-requisite for this course.
Session 1:
- Review of pre-press and Illustrator C3
- Customizing the Illustrator workspace
- Live trace and live paint
- Typography in Illustrator
- Filters, Effects, Appearance palette
- Students to refine and finalize a logo/business card design
- File types for exporting and saving
Session 2:
- Customizing the InDesign C5 workspace
- Document setup (poster/newsletter/ DL flyer) and master pages
- Colour creation and application
- Frame creation and management
- Graphic options (fill/stroke)
- Creating, placing and editing text
- Paragraph and character styles
- Students to develop and produce a 12 page booklet
Session 3:
- Introduction to Photoshop concepts
- Sourcing quality images
- Advanced Editing (tonal, colour, artistic)
- Building a collage of images
- Layer effects and blending modes
Session 4:
- Open InDesign file
- Text and graphics together wrap text
- Graphic effects
- Customized graphic options (fill/stroke; styles)
- Pre-flighting and packaging InDesign file
- Exporting and printing options
- Using Acrobat to create a presentation
Required Materials
Students are to supply their own:
- 1GB USB Memory Stick
- Notebook and pen
