Congratulations to Queensland College of Art Documentary Photography Masters student, Sitthixay Ditthavong for gaining the first artist residency at Documentary Arts Asia (DAA).
Documentary Arts Asia runs their artist in residence program for a photographer or film-maker in Chiang Mai for up to three months. The artist's aim is to to complete a cultural, environmental or human rights project and help DAA promote photo culture and visual literacy in Thailand. In addition to producing an important body of work, the artist-in-residence will be teaching workshops and bringing new ideas and energy into the documentary community in Chiang Mai, Thailand and South-East Asia.
Chiang Mai is a perfect place for an artist in residence program, in part because of the variety of projects that could be made there, the large population of artists, and the relatively low cost of living.
The artist will also be provided exhibition space at the Chiang Mai Documentary Arts Festival and will have their work published in Nama in addition to teaching classes and providing portfolio reviews.
Congratulations Sitthixay. We look forward to seeing the work you produce during the residency.
