Recent Events at GUAG

Griffith University Art Gallery recently hosted the following public events and workshops

Orientation Week Event - Queensland College of Art - Oh Video - 23 February 2012

A program of video and time-based artworks by Griffith University Queensland College of Art students and alumni. Featuring over twenty artworks by 15 artists the program delivered a comprehensive snapshot of technogical art practices in Brisbane.

I Am Me Workshop - 25 February 2012

A workshop which encouraged young artists to explore through visual signs the things that make them who they think they are. Participants explored their own identity, and how this eltes to design and popular culture (magazines, photos) and consumption (what they live to eat, wear, and play with) a wider idea of self-portraiture can emerge, alongside an image they can frame and hang at home. The workshop was presented by internationally acclaimed contemporary artist, Gonkar Gyatso and supervised by GUAG's Dr Chris Bennie.

An Evening with Eleanor Heartney - 19 March 2012

A keynote address by Eleanore Heartney who is one of the world's leading contemporary art theorists. Eleanor is an independent culture critic and leading author, based in New York. She is a contributing editor for Art in America and co-President of the American Section of the International Art Critics Association. The event will touch on contemporary issues in art, including a role for art in politics and spirituality. Hosted by Griffith University Art Gallery and organised by Professor Maura Reilly, Art Theory, Queensland College of Art.

Information Session for Churchie Emerging Art Applicants - 26 April 2012

Dr Chris Bennie was joined by Kelly Hussey-Smith, 2010 Churchie winner, and 2011 finalist Megan Cope at Griffith University Art Gallery, for an information session on the application process for the Churchie Emerging Art Award. The presentation from the Information session is available for interested applicants, offering tips on preparing your artist statement, biography, CV and images.
