Almost all higher education in Australia is provided by the 37 public universities. In addition there are 2 private universities, 5 specialist public academies and some 40 private non-university providers. Most of the private non-university providers are religious colleges (49% of private student load), mostly specialist providers of allied health or creative arts (42%) and providers of diplomas and other university preparatory.
