Centre for Scientific Computation, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (CSC)

The Center of Scientific Computation at Hong Kong University of Science & Technology will introduce a number of its research programs at HPC-Asia 2001.

The Center for Scientific Computation is dedicated to the advancement of a range of disciplines using computation, by solving complex problems via numerical methods employing computers. CSC has a total of 39 faculty members drawn from the Departments of Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Civil Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Industrial Engineering and Engineering Management, Mechanical Engineering, Finance, Economics, and the Center for Coastal and Atmospheric Research.

The mission of the Research Center is to promote cutting edge research in numerical computations and their applications in science and technology. The Center advocates the development of innovative computational algorithms that are reliable, accurate and efficient for scientific research. It involves the application of such algorithms in critical areas of science and engineering such as the aerospace industry in China, transportation industry in Hong Kong, and environmental protection in Hong Kong and the Pearl River Delta. It also includes the finance and other local industry plus the training of scientific and technical personnel.
