Admissions Bonus Scheme
Students get boost into uni with new bonus admission scheme
A new Bonus Rank Admission scheme has been launched by Griffith University to reward high school students nationally who are studying selected subjects.
The Admissions Bonus Scheme will award high-school students who successfully complete Maths C (or equivalent) or a Language other than English bonus admission ranks.
Bonus points will also be automatic for high school students completing university studies such as the GriffPhys and GriffChem programs, or participating in the Griffith University Early Start to Tertiary Study program and recognised equivalents from other tertiary institutions.
Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic) Professor John Dewar said the new scheme recognised subjects and studies undertaken by high school students that require a high level of skill and knowledge.
"These subjects and initiatives have been identified as strong factors in preparing school leavers for the rigour and diversity of tertiary study, and we wanted to reward the effort required by students in these areas,"Professor Dewar said.
"It's also an incentive for students to take on these subjects which may not traditionally have been as popular as other courses, but have an important contribution to make to students learning and academic careers."
Under the scheme, students will receive on the university rank scale:
- 2 ranks for passing Maths C
- 2 ranks for passing a Language other than English
- 1 ranks for successfully completing GriffChem, GriffPhysics and other University studies
- taken in high school or the Griffith University Early Start to Tertiary Study program and recognised equivalents from other tertiary institutions
A maximum of 5 bonus ranks can be applied under the scheme. For example if a student does a language as well as extension language 2 points will be offered for each.
The new admission scheme will be available for students finishing high school in 2008, for admission in 2009.
