Facilities

The Eskitis Institute has laboratories on the Nathan Campus and the Brisbane Innovation Park. It includes research laboratory space for analysis of biota and compound management; high throughput screening; medicinal, combinatorial synthetic and structural chemistry; cell biology and in vitro cell culture; molecular biology and bioinformatics; and animal models of disease. The Institute combines researchers from a number of disciplines, encourages collaboration and maximises the use of expertise across a number of research areas. The Institute also enjoys well established links with clinical investigators.

Griffith University is about to commence construction of a new $17m purpose-built facility to house 120 of the Eskitis Institute staff. This two-storey building will house chemical biology, stem cell and neurobiology researchers and will incorporate the National Adult Stem Cell Research Centre and the Queensland Compound Library. Drug discovery research will remain in the building that currently houses the Natural Product Discovery program. Other research groups will remain in laboratories on the Nathan campus.

The Institute for Glycomics has a multidisciplinary structure to maximise collaboration between researchers and integrate multiple technological platforms and research fields. The programs draw on the technology and the research expertise available within the areas of Mammalian Glycomics, Microbial Glycomics, and Enabling Glycotechnology.

The Institute is currently embarking on an ambitious expansion strategy that will see the Institute triple in size and research capacity by the end of 2007. $22 million dollars of capital works funding has been provided for this purpose by Griffith University and The Queensland State Government.
