- 1. How do I know if I am eligible?
- Specialist courses are a non-award study program offered to assist you in re-skilling for a career shift, acquiring specialist knowledge in an area of interest or can be considered the first step in applying to undertake a related Griffith degree.
- If the course you have applied for is a postgraduate course, it is assumed that you will have a sound knowledge base of the subject area before applying. The knowledge base could have been obtained by completing an undergraduate degree in the area of study or through relevant work experience. If you have no prior knowledge of this subject area you may want to consider applying for an undergraduate program or course.
- If the course you have applied for is an undergraduate course, it is assumed that you have a basic knowledge or a general interest in the area of study.
- The 'Course Level' is available in the summary details by clicking on the specialist course title of interest.
- 2. What does 'non-award' mean?
- The term non-award is a generic term indicating that the program of study does not, of itself, automatically lead to the award of a degree.
- 3. How do I apply to undertake the specialist course of my interest?
- The Application Form for a Specialist Course is available to be downloaded via the 'Apply Now'button. Simply complete and sign the application form, and forward it directly to Student Admissions, Continuing Education before the closing date 5 July 2008. Late applications received by Student Admissions, prior to the start of the semester, will be considered by Griffith Business School.
- 4. Do I pay an Application Fee upfront?
- No. The application fee has been included in the cost of your tuition.
- 5. Am I guaranteed entry into a specialist course?
- No. Submitting an application does not guarantee entry to any course. Assessors do deny applications.
- 6. How will my application be assessed?
- The University uses a variety of assessment criteria. Each application is assessed on its own merit as recognition is given to prior education, and the knowledge and skills gained through work, sport, community service and life experiences.
- Applicants will receive written confirmation of the outcome of the application.
- The University reserves the right to withdraw an offer and cancel the enrolment of any person where an offer was made on the basis of incomplete or inaccurate information supplied by the applicant, or where the applicant is excluded from any tertiary institution or tertiary program of study.
- 7. If I receive an offer, what happens then?
- The University will forward a Griffith Enrolment Material Pack to all successful applicants, This pack will contain your student identification number and a password to access Griffith's Portal and Student Learning Systems. A 'Guide to Enrolling at Griffith' and important information relating to student services and important dates will also be enclosed. This information will assist you with your on-line registration and enrolment into your timetable classes.
- 8. How do I view my timetable details?
- The timetable details for Semester 2, 2008 will be available from 05 June 2008 via the current student timetable web page.
- Answers to frequently asked questions relating to how to read the timetable are also available.
- 9. When do I pay my tuition fees?
- The tuition fee will be generated by the University at the start of the semester. An Academic Charges Account (Invoice) will be generated electronically to your Student Centre, and can be accessed via the Griffith Portal.
- To avoid late payment penalties and/or cancellation of enrolment, all fees must be paid in full by the end of teaching week 4 (census date).
- Tuition fees for non-award study are not eligible for HECS-HELP, FEE-HELP, and University or Commonwealth assistance.
- If your study is related to your current professional vocation, you may wish to check with your tax agent if the tuition fees are tax deductible.
- 10. When does the semester start and what are the important dates?

- 11. Can I defer my offer or apply for leave of absence?
- No. There are no deferment or leave or absence options available to non-award students. You can either accept the offer by enrolling on-line into your class/es, or reject the offer in writing to Student Admissions, Continuing Education, by the start of the semester. Once an offer is rejected, applicants wishing to re-apply for admission into a GBS specialist course at a later date are required to submit a new application.
- 12. What will I receive at the end of my studies?
- An official Academic Transcript containing the results from your course/s is available from Student Administration. A fee of $10 applies for the issue of an academic transcript.
- 13. Do I get automatic entry into a related Griffith degree?
- No. Automatic entry into a Griffith degree program does not apply. Upon successful completion of your course/s you may make application to apply for entry into a Griffith degree for the following intake. Contact our Student Centre on 1800 677 728 for assistance on how to apply for a Griffith degree.
- 14. Will I receive any credit transfer for completed courses?
- Yes. Once you have successfully gained entry into a related Griffith degree you will receive an academic credit transfer for the course/s that have been successfully completed. A time limit of 10 years applies.
- 15. How do I cancel my enrolment from a specialist course?
- If you wish to cancel your enrolment in a specialist course, you must complete a Cancellation of Enrolment Form and submit it to Student Administration before the end of teaching week 4. Failure to submit a Cancellation of Enrolment Form, in-line with the University's important dates, will incur the financial penalty of 100% tuition fees and charges, plus an academic penalty of a 'Fail' grade against each enrolled course. - 16. What if my course of interest is not offered within the Specialist Course list?
- The Griffith Business School accepts applications for non-award study for the majority of their course offerings within any Griffith Business Program. Applications of interest are subject to meeting course/program prerequisites, seating availability and University approval.
