Course details
The core aim of this course is to provide you with an appreciation of the media’s key role in contemporary politics and policy making, and the way in which it shapes political dynamics and behaviour. Its focus on the relationship between politics and the media provides participants with insights into the ways in which the media shapes politics but also the ways in which political actors try to use the media to their advantage. Hence, the course provides the opportunity to develop a more sophisticated understanding of contemporary political and policy issues and the skills to critically evaluate the political aspects of media content, regulatory arrangements, and the interaction between political and media players. The course aims to further develop a range of important generic skills in communication, analysis, evaluation, research and problem solving, and to enhance students’ personal management skills to enable them to become more effective learners.
